The Regulated Pass-Through Charges applicable to the Northern Ireland electricity market for the 2026/2027 charging year have now been confirmed. These changes will take effect from 1 October 2026 and will be reflected in your future bills from this date.
 

Pass-Through Charges Explained

Electricity suppliers in Northern Ireland are required to pay a range of regulated charges and levies, which are passed through to customers as part of their electricity bill.

Regulated Pass-Through Charges are industry charges and levies set by NIE Networks, SONI, SEMO and other regulatory authorities. These charges are approved by the Utility Regulator and SEM Committee and are applied in accordance with the terms of your contract. Other regulated costs, including capacity market charges, arise from the Integrated Single Electricity Market (I-SEM). These charges are administered by the Single Electricity Market Operator (SEMO) and approved by the SEM Committee.

These charges are reviewed and updated annually, with the relevant regulatory approvals applied before implementation.

Pass-Through charges include

  • Transmission Use of Systems (TUoS)
  • Distribution Use of Systems (DUoS)
  • Public Service Obligation (PSO)
  • Supplier Capacity Charges
  • Residual Error Volume Price
  • Currency Cost Price and Currency Adjustment Charge Factor
  • Market Operator Charges (MO)
  • Imperfection Charges
  • Northern Ireland Renewable Obligation (NIRO) 

How the Changes in Pass-Through Costs will Impact My Premises


The Pass-Through charges that apply to your supply, and any changes to those charges from 1 October 2026, depend on the DUOS Tariff Code assigned to your premises by NIE Networks. Your DUOS Tariff Code determines the network and market charges applicable to your supply and can be found on the letter you received in relation to these changes (for example, T031, T032, T033 or T034).

 

Please refer to the table corresponding to your DUoS Tariff Code, which shows the net adjustment to your current rates from 1 October 2026.
